Dr. Honey Zimmerman, Assistant Professor of Supply Chain Management at Western Illinois University led a session on conflict resolution and negotiating. The information she shared was such informative life skills on communication, how to handle conflict, emotional intelligence and negotiating styles. At the end of each week we do a retrospective & here are a few key takeaways the students had:
* One of the biggest communication problems in our world..."we do not listen to understand, we listen to reply."
* Negotiating is often thought of as a negative or situation where someone is going to win & someone will lose, however we should look at negotiating as a way to build a relationship.
* When working with a team or group, start with what you have in common 1st (most people jump right into their differences & forget they are all on the same "team" with ultimately the same goal).
* 7% of what we say is from the words we hear & more than 50% of what we see impacts what we say/think.

There were so many great lessons and we are grateful for Dr. Honey Zimmerman's time and passion for CEO students. The Mt.Zion and Lincoln Land CEO programs also joined us and it is always great to collaborate with other local programs.
