Our students had the privilege of learning from Tom Kopieka, retired programmer and CEO mentor, who shared powerful lessons from the book The Four Types of People by Verna Price: Multipliers, Adders, Subtractors, and Dividers. He challenged the students to reflect on what type of person they are on a team — and reminded them, don’t be a Subtractor or Divider!
Tom also discussed how we all face constraints in life, but what matters is how we respond to them. As Jack Welch said: “Control your destiny or someone else will.”
To bring this lesson to life, the students played a round of reverse charades with no talking allowed — a frustrating constraint! On top of that, they didn’t get to choose their team members, illustrating another reality: you don’t always get to pick your coworkers.
✨ Takeaway: Be a Multiplier or an Adder. Take action, create opportunities, keep a positive attitude (or change it), and bring value to every team you’re part of!
